To coincide with our Rebecca Cole Gallery exhibition, Introducing America to Americans Depression-Era Photographs from Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts will host a double feature movie night showcasing two iconic documentaries by Depression-era filmmaker Pare Lorentz, The Plow That Broke The Plains and The River. The Plow That Broke The Plains documents the lives of American citizens striving to survive in the Great Plains during the Dust Bowl. In the documentary, The River, Lorentz and his crew travel down the Mississippi River and record the aftermath of catastrophic floods caused by extensive topsoil erosion. The script for The River was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in poetry.
